In January 2026, our board spent two days at Terra Sancta in reflection, prayer, and planning for the future. It was exactly the time together we needed to refocus on what matters most and get excited about where we’re headed.
Welcome to Our New Board Members
We were excited to welcome four new board members to our team, bringing fresh perspectives and renewed energy to our work. Their presence reminded us that our mission is an ongoing journey, one that requires both the wisdom of experience and the enthusiasm of new voices.
Learning from Experience
Our guest speaker, Mark Conzemius, President Emeritus from the Catholic Community Foundation for Eastern South Dakota, helped us think deeply about our strengths and where we have room to grow. Through thoughtful discussion, Mark guided us in identifying real opportunities to increase our impact in the community. We also spent time talking about our goals, restructuring our committees, and finding ways to get more people involved in the meaningful work we do.
Our New Mission Statement
The biggest outcome of our retreat was creating a new mission statement. As we set goals for the future, we realized our mission needed to clearly reflect where we’re going and why. After meaningful conversation and discernment, we crafted something that really captures the heart of our work:
“Continuing Christ’s mission by promoting faith-filled giving that strengthens the church in Western South Dakota.”
We formally adopted this mission statement at our February 19th board meeting. These aren’t just words on paper. They’re our commitment and our calling.
Our mission is about continuing Christ’s work in three beautiful ways:
Caring for the Poor. Christ’s ministry was marked by love for those who are vulnerable and marginalized. Our work creates opportunities to serve those most in need in Western South Dakota.
Promoting the Joy of Giving. Giving isn’t just about writing checks. It’s about experiencing the deep joy that comes from generosity and proclaiming the gospel through our actions. When we give from the heart, we participate in something sacred and life-giving.
Building Up the Church. We strengthen the body of Christ in Western South Dakota, supporting parishes, ministries, and faith communities doing transformative work across our region. Through this work, we help proclaim the gospel and share the good news of Christ’s love.
Moving Forward Together
We left Terra Sancta with renewed energy and a clearer sense of purpose. We have a stronger team, an inspiring mission statement, and concrete plans to make a real difference in Western South Dakota.
The conversations we started at our retreat continue today. We’re excited about the future and grateful for the opportunity to serve. Most importantly, we’re moving forward together, united in our commitment to continue Christ’s mission through faith-filled giving.
